FUNAAB Bulletin, a weekly publication of the University, packaged by the Directorate of Public Relations became the toast of participants at the just concluded 16th Triennial Symposium of International Society for Tropical Root Crops (ISTRC) hosted by the University.

Scores of participants, especially from overseas countries, jostled for copies of the Bulletin at the International Scholars and Resource Centre, venue of the plenary sessions, immediately they sighted the report of the opening ceremony and their photographs, barely 24 hours after the event.

Several others rushed to the information arena where the Bulletin was conspicuously pasted and displayed to read the report of the symposium.

One of the participants who was fascinated by his picture, which appeared in the inside page of the edition was highly impressed, such that he caused a “stir”.

On seeing his picture on page 3 of the FUNAAB Bulletin, Jean-Louis PHAM who is the Project Leader of Agropolis Resource Centre for Crop Conservation, Adaptation and Diversity (ARCAD) started inviting his colleagues to come and see his picture saying, “ unbelievable folks, this is me”, pointing to his picture in the Bulletin.

Apparently unsatisfied with mere pointing to his picture, Jean-Louis PHAM, brought out his portable photo camera and within an express spate of five minutes, he took several shots of his picture, which stood imposing and erect in the Bulletin.

The lenses of our eagle-eyed, ace photographer, Gbolahan Sheriff a.k.a Global captured Jean-Louis PHAM while celebrating his appearance on the University Bulletin.

As a matter of fact, Pham’s joy knew no bound when told that FUNAAB Bulletin is already on the internet for the whole world to see.

Consequently, he requested for the University website, which was given to him immediately by FUNAAB Bulletin crew.

Thereafter, he brought out his laptop and began to access the University website for the week’s edition of FUNAAB Bulletin.

Incidentally, Pham’s search for the Bulletin on the University Website was aborted by Dr. Abdulrasaq Adebowale, a member of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), who announced to the participants that buses are waiting to take them on a tour of the University’s Farm.

In response to the announcement, PHAM muttered, “the web is not going anywhere, I will come back for it but as for the buses, they are on motion”.

He , thereafter shut down his laptop, pick his conference bag and headed straight to a waiting bus, thus denying our reporter an interview on why he responded elatedly to his picture, on the University Bulletin.

Apart from Jean-Louis Pham, the President of ISTRC (as at Press time), Professor Andrew Westby could not hide his admiration and endorsement of FUNAAB Bulletin.

Professor Westby took the Bulletin along with him everywhere he went at the International Scholars and Resource Centre on Wednesday and even posed for a photograph with it.
