Assistant Director, Media/External Relations (Public Relations), Mr. Kola Adepoju (JP) has been awarded and inaugurated as an Ambassador of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council.

His investiture as an Ambassador with two others was part of activities marking the Gala Night, which was the grand finale of a week-long Annual Press Week of Ogun State Council of NUJ, held at Spices Hall, Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Adepoju was privileged to be decorated with his Ambassadorial robe by the new Patron of NUJ and the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako who also presented him with his Award Plaque.

Explaining the rationale behind the choice of Adepoju as Ambassador of Journalists in the State, the Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Wole Sokunbi said it was borne out of his commitment to the development and progress of NUJ since his active days as member and more importantly since he crossed over to Public Relations.

Comrade Shokunbi emphasized that rather than lose touch with the profession that made him, Adepoju has been impacting journalism appreciably with his Public Relations practices.

He pointed out that though journalism has loaned him to Public Relations, the former still wants him back in higher capacity.

Adepoju started his career in journalism in 1998 as Education Correspondent of Third Eye Newspapers, in Ibadan.

Thereafter, and at different times, he was the Ogun State Bureau Chief of The Diet Newspapers, Hallmark Magazine and Champion Newspapers, all in Lagos.

Adepoju also served journalism administratively as Treasurer, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Treasurer, Secretary and Chairman, Correspondents Chapel, NUJ.

He equally served Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Ogun State Council as Public Relations Executive (Spokesman) of the body.

In 2003, Ogun State Government recognized Adepoju as a Media Personality and sponsored him on holy pilgrimage to Israel.

In 2006, Adepoju was 2nd Runner-up, Ogun State Government Award (Media Person of the Year).

He has won several awards, including Fellow, Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria (2014), most outstanding Public Relations Executive of the Year (2016).
